The project will be fully funded by Oxfam, a non-governmental organization that boasts of creating lasting solutions to empower people to create a future that is secure, just and free from poverty.
Horticulture is the art and science of the development, sustainable production, marketing, and use of high-value, intensively cultivated food and ornamental plants.
The LCV chairperson of Zombo James Oruna Oyullu in a recent council meeting said the organization has selected Paidha Subcounty to champion the project. He is optimistic that the initiative will have a great impact on the lives of the farmers.
” Members I need to inform you that Oxfam has picked Zombo and Terego amongst the 13 Westnile Districts to benefit from the horticulture project and Paidha Sub-county has been selected, we are grateful for that and we believe farmers will greatly benefit from the project” Oyullu said.
Horticulture Requires intensive management on fewer acres and higher human input per acre and produces a higher value per acre.
The LC3 chairperson of Paidha sub_county Williams Okethi said farmers are “well prepared and extensive sensitisation has been done”
He also added that” mobilization is ongoing in the two Parishes of Cana and Otheko “
Additionally, The secretary of production Paidha sub county Gladies Kajik said forms of over 100 farmers have been filled.
Horticulture includes ornamental and food plants that are grown with intensive and individualized care, and often in a small space rather than in an expansive field.
