Pakwach residents decry water shortage as water supply solar panels go missing

A security guard has  been arrested after solar panels Installed to supply water to a community in Alwi Sub County Pakwach District went missing under his watch. #WhisperEyeNews #Water #News

The security guard who is currently being detained at Alwi Police Post has been identified as Robert Okweda

He was taking care of the equipped security guard stolen installed in Ukia Village, Pangyeth Parish.

Edwin Keuber, The LC 1 chairperson of Ukia Village  Pangyeth Parish Alwi Sub County  told Whisper Eye News that  the suspect claimed: “thieves broke into the powerhouse and stole panels when he went home to check on his sick child at 1:00 am on Friday morning.”

Keuber added that the suspect is being held at Alwi Police Post to aid in the investigation.

Francis Wakunga  Rubanga, A teacher at Ukia Parents Primary School in Panyeth Parish revealed that water shortage has hit many institutions and and the neighboring Community.

“When the Solar panel went missing hundreds From the villages of Ukia, Pangyeth, umvonga, Aworu, Jupayanga, Among others have no water currently ” He Said.

Alwi Sub county in Pakwach district has been grappling with water shortage for years and their concerns later attracted attention of NGOs and government.

The solar powered water source were installed in different parts of the subcounty with support from a non governmental organization Called Africa water solution, the Pakwach district local government, ministry of water and Environment amongst others.

Getting comments from  Robert Odia, The  LC3 chairperson of Alwi Sub-county also the Dean of the association of LC3s of Pakwach district proved futile but recently, he revealed that water coverage in the sub-county has hit 70%.

The panels that went missing was installed in 2021 local leaders say.
