Alur King reshuffles cabinet

By Ronald Orachwun

The king of Alur Kingdom His Royal Majesty Phillip Olarker Rauni III has made a mini reshuffle in his cabinet.

This is a substantive cabinet which has been given the mandate to steer the kingdom to achieve its strategic objectives over the next ten years.

All the previous appointees including Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, the prime and his deputy Vincent Ocaya Orach have been reappointed.

No one was dropped from the previous list of appointees.

Among the fresh faces in the new cabinet include Sam Kumakech who has been appointed as the minister of Youth and Sports.

The major focus of the new cabinet is improvement of education and tourism in Alur land.

“I want to thank all Alur people for supporting what belongs to you. We have however realized kthat we are missing one thing and that is tourism. This tourism ministry is still new, it has come after we realized that we are not capitalizing on the new people who visit us here. How can we have people going to sleep in Arua or Gulu when we can develop own outlets here. We recently hosted the President for one our biggest activities but people do not find facilities here. We are looking forward to working with other partners to see that this ministry is supported to achieve its objectives. We are also calling upon our own people to embrace this new initiative”, he said.

During a media briefing at the King’s residence in Kaal Atyak Winam in Zombo district, Odongo Emilio the minister incharge of general duties said one of the other key components ker alur is going to promote is the  cross boder relationship and cross boarder investments between the Alur subjects  in the Democratic Republic of Congo and  those in Uganda.

“We have more Alur people in Congo than Uganda and yet we are one. We are already discussing this initiative. This could actually bring more resources, especially from those in Congo. So for us as one people we need to harness this cross border initiative because some of the traders are Alur people, so we believe if we take advantage of this numerical advantage, could generate real money for the Kingdom”, he said.

The prime minister of Ker Alur Prince Angala Laurence however said the cabinet is going to be so focused in order for the cultural system to go deeper to the grassroots.

“So this cabinet is going to be very very focused. It has only 11 members with 8 who are here at the Palace so this cabinet is very small. But what we want to do is to work closely with the chiefs and the media to see that whatever we do reaches the people at the grass root”, he said.
