‘Saagalaagalamidde’ is a community mobilisation drum. Every time it rung, the community would gather immediately to implement the task need.
As the Kingdom of Buganda is preparing to commemorate the 30th coronation anniversary of Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, several pre-event activities are being carried out as 31st July the due date is drawing closer.
Kabaka’s subjects in the Subcounty of Mumyuka Kammengo led by Omw. Matovu Stephen Muliika the Ggombolola Chief and his deputy, Ms Nannono Sarah Kaweesi have today rung ‘Saagalaagalamidde’ in order to rally the people in the township of Kammengo to carry out a community general cleaning activity (Bulungibwansi) in the area.

Matovu and Nannono while addressing the general public emphasized the need for general cleanness at home, work and our neighboring environment so as to secure themselves from diseases resulting from poor sanitation and hygiene.
“We should not wait for sensitization gatherings, nor ‘Saagalaagalamidde’ to ring. Let’s embrace the idea of the need for better sanitation which leads to better living. This is what Kabaka for the last 30 years has put more emphasis on. We need to live in a way that pleases our neighbours. Let’s all do it for others, and ourselves”, Matovu stretched.

The activity has registered an overwhelming attendance from school students mostly those subscribing to “Baganda Nkobazambogo Students Association’ leadership of St Bruno Sserunkuuma SS Ggoli, the Mumyuka Executive, Local Council leaders, Abaami b’emiruka and the ‘batongole’
The 30th coronation anniversary of Kabaka Mutebi II will see the climax on Monday 31st July 2023, with a mega event in Mengo Palace.
