As one of its strategies to address the challenge of unemployment that stands out as a global crisis, The diocese of Nebbi church of Uganda has launched a new vocational school at Pagisi church of Uganda Goli Central Archdeaconry to fit people with vocational skills. #WhisperEyeNews
This initiative has been spearheaded under the One Village Transformed Project ( OVT) with support from world concerns.
The O.V.T project that was launched in 2017 by the church is involved in many life-changing undertakings like extensive sensitization of people on agriculture, sanitation, and savings amongst others.
The vocational school that was launched at Pagisi church of Uganda on the 20th Of this month by the Bishop of Nebbi church of Uganda Rt Rev Pons Ozelle Awinjo, shall be fitting out people with hands-on skills in carpentry, metal works and fabrication, Tailoring and garment cuttings amongst others.
Before the school was launched formally, it use to train students within the school and elsewhere under the sponsorship of the O.V.T project with funding from world concern.
During the school launch, Some of the sponsored and self_ sponsored Students graduated with vocational skills in different disciplines at the school for the first time.
The Bishop of Nebbi church of Uganda Rt. Rev Pons Ozelle Awinjo at the vocational school launch shared that the school is a study centre for everyone regardless of one’s religious background.
The Bishop also charged the students who had attained hands-on skills in various disciplines to extensively deploy the knowledge they obtained in the field.
” This school is for everyone. Poverty doesn’t know if your from the catholic, Anglican or Muslim denomination, we have brought this school to change the lives of people of Pagisi”, Awinjo said.
The Archdeacon of Goli Central Archdeaconry Ven. Jimmy Oweka who is the coordinator revealed that doors are open for all including the school dropouts.
He added that aside from the establishment of the vocational school and the early childhood development centre, a plan is in place to establish a primary school section next year which will commence with primary one.
To students like Immaculate Bithum who dropped out of senior one at Charity College Paidha because of lack of school fees, it was a big blessing to her because out of the skill she acquired in Tailoring thanks to O.V.T project, she can provide for her family.
Another student Godwin Kajik says with the skill he obtained in metal works and fabrication, he has been able to acquire a tailoring machine for his wife.
As the new vocational school commences its operationalization, the diocese has a plan in place to employ some community-based facilitators in the fields with fewer facilitators.
The head of the community-based facilitators at the vocational school Wilfred Ogenmungu has rallied the community around to brace the school with open arms.
