Zombo 65-year-old Woman survives death after weeks of fasting

A  65 years old elderly woman identified as  Lilian Awacango at the border town of Padea in Zombo district has spent close to one month without food and water because she is fasting. #WhisperEyeNews

The woman who is a  believer at  Padea full gospel church in Padea town council would lock herself in the church alone without eating anything thus raising concerns amongst the family members who reported to Authorities.

Padea full gospel church is a church for over 100 believers.

The woman would neither eat food nor drink water brought to her in the church the family members said.

Locals say she would disappear during the normal Sunday service. But she would
be heard praying alone in the church every evening.

The LC 1 chairperson of Dubia village Ndindu ward Padea town council David Odaga said he became concerned, especially about her deteriorating condition.

He said the concern deepens when family members reported to him that she was refusing food and water brought for her in the church.

” This woman would spend all her time in that church, she became weak and thin and when family members became charged, I went to monitor her, and she declined to open the church door. I had to report to Authorities “, Odaga said.

As concerns come into view because of her sharp_ set hungry look,  she was forcefully picked by the family members from the church given her deteriorating health condition for better management at home.

A pastor at Padea full gospel church said what worsened the situation was that she switched off her phones and locked up herself for weeks without food drawing a feeling of suspicion.

” It’s true that she was fasting but the bad thing is that she switched off her phone. This made the family members become concerned and to make it worse there was no food” He explained

In 2000, 700 members of the movement for the restoration of the ten commandments headed by Joseph Kibwetere, died after being locked in a church that was set ablaze in the name of meeting God.

The LC3 chairperson of Padea town council Melki Onyutha Orwothuwun has strongly condemned the act.

“We have heard that outcry from the community. Biologically speaking, that can’t work. Somebody is going to die in the name of fasting and praying. should it happen, we shall see it like someone has committed suicide. I call upon our people not to emulate such acts”, Onyutha said.

Recently, 80 members of cult leader  Simon Opolot in Eastern Uganda who were duped to get rid of their belongings and travel to Ethiopia to starve for 40 days were repatriated back to Uganda by the Ethiopian government.

In neighboring Kenya, Pastor Paul Mackenzie is currently in custody, accused of making his followers starve themselves to death, and over 300 bodies of his followers have been discovered in shallow graves in Shakahola forest near the coastal town of Malindi.
