Zombo Woman MP delivers relief items to the homeless

The Woman MP for Zombo district also the commissioner of Parliament Esther Afoyochan,  has handed over some relief items to over 100 residents whose homes were torched down in Labora village, Otheko Parish Paidha Sub-county. #WhisperEyeNews

Last week, the community was left homeless after the disgruntled community of Avonu from Amei parish Paidha Sub-county lobbed anger on them setting ablaze 76 houses and looting many property,  after two of their relatives were murdered in cold blood by unknown residents in Labora village along River Zingili.

The Items delivered on the 28th of May include Mattresses, Basins, Jerrycans, blankets, and 300 kgs of rice that costs nearly 10 million Ugx. Two tents were also promised by the Legislator for the homeless.

The Zombo Woman Mp Esther Afoyochan also commends the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who stood in the gap when she requested some assistance from her.

These items delivered have brought some sigh of relief to the homeless residents who are currently taking refuge at Pubidhi primary school in Nebbi district on Sunday evening.

Afoyochan before delivering the items first visited the bereaved community of Avonu to condole with them. She begged for forgiveness on behalf of the Labora community before appealing for a dialogue meeting between the two rival communities.

She delivered some support to the bereaved families before making off to the homeless residents in Pubidhi primary school in Nebbi district to deliver the relief items where she equally stressed the need for a high_ end dialogue between the two sides.

“I’m here in rescue for my people who lost property during some kind of conflict when two of them were killed and the other community responded by burning huts. I’m here to ensure that they get some level of minimum support, I want to thank the speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among for helping when I contacted her. However, I also condemn the acts of taking laws into our hands which has led us into this kind of situation” Afoyochan explained.

Benard Orach, the LC 1 chairperson of Avonu Central who is the uncle to one of the deceased commends the legislator on behalf of the bereaved family before assuring her that the Avonu community had forgiven their counterpart adding that, they are using legal means to pursue justice for their loved ones.

The LC 3 chairperson of Paidha sub county  William Okethi has appreciated the legislator for the great gesture towards both parties.

Okethi said, ” I’m happy that my phone calls to you were not for nothing, indeed when I inform you honorable about this tragedy, you promised to get down to us, and am so happy that you have supported our people who are homeless”.

Kizito Oryem, The head teacher of Pubidhi primary school where these hundreds of residents are taking refuge commends Afoyochan for stepping in when the situation is dire for the people.

He appealed to the Legislator  to ” increase the lobbying capacity because food that was given to them last week is getting finished this evening and from tomorrow, they will not have anything to eat and besides, studies are beginning but we can’t chase them away” 

The council speaker of Zombo Hassan Ringtho has condemned the two incidences of Murder and burning of houses that have left both parties greatly affected and he thanked the Zombo woman mp for the big heart he has shown to the community of Paidha sub-county.

On Friday, Security mobilized some food items for the homeless and assured them of high_ end security whilst an extensive engagement meeting has been convened by the security of Zombo district after the burial of one of the deceased at Avonu central in Paidha Sub-county to calm down the community.
