Olemukan died on Saturday 24th December at Mulago in Kampala following a battle with cancer, the district secretary for works said.

“I know you people love our father, that’s why you came in big numbers, bracing through the mud to bid farewell to our father. As his daughter and the firstborn in the family, the only gift for my father is your approval and vote for me to replace him”, she said as crowds cheered during the burial ceremony

“As people of Bukedea, we should mourn with hope because I am here to offer myself to take on from where my father stopped from and I shall make sure that what he didn’t finish, will be finished,” Akiror told thousands of mourners in Akuoro village, Bukedea during the send off of her father.

Akiror’s interest in replacing her father was since welcomed by different leaders who had turned up to attend the burial of her father including the minister of local government Raphael Magyezi who gave her a humble contribution of 2m ugx towards her political career who described the late as a developmental leader who will dearly be missed.

While using examples of the MP for Usuk county Micheal Oromait died who was replaced by his daughter Proscovia Alengot, Speaker [Jacob Oulanyah] who was also replaced by his son in Omoro,Bukedea county MP John Bosco Ikojo asked why the narrative should be changed thus drawing cheers from the mourners.

“It is Akiror who knows the works of her dad and so, those intending to contest should wait until 2026 when her father’s term ends,” Teso affairs state minister Kenneth Ongalo said.

Other district chairpersons of Teso region attended the burial and rubber-stamped their backing of Olemukan’s daughter.

“We are happy for you to accept to step in the shoes of your father. As his former colleagues, we shall support you so that you can carry on his legacy,” said Stephen Ochola, the chairperson of Teso district chairpersons.

Vice-President Jessica Alupo, the chief mourner at his interment, said he was “a hardworking chairman who treasured the welfare of women.

It should also be noted that Akiror is the first child in their family and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in public administration at Kampala International University while her late father was the only son of his parents, Peter Ochom and Loyce Akiror, who are alive.
