Over fifty (50) youths from Uganda’s leading opposition political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), and also former party president Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert campaigners have crossed to the ruling NRM party to secure their future. #WhisperEyNews

Speaking to Whisper Eye News, they were hoodwinked that the opposition political party NUP, will lead them to development and prosperity which has been not the case since they joined the party.

These youths cited that their MPs have failed to mobilize them for development yet they sacrificed a lot for them during the campaign and election period.

Some of the former NUP supporters on why they have joined NRM

Led by Mr. Herman Lubega, the NUP spokesman in Bukomansimbi district, the team denounced their party NUP, thus joining the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) at Kisojjo playground in Bukomansimbi on Thursday 27th October 2022.

“We elected our MPs thinking that they will care about us, which is not the case. Every time they make expensive trips abroad to the US and other countries. But they have failed to help us at all,” says Mr. Herman Lubega.

“If it were you and had no help from your party leaders whom you elected in offices and a big hustle, what could you do? NRM is willing to help us,” another NUP campaigner said.

The team was welcomed by Defence Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja and Mr. Bashir Ssemakula, the 2021 NRM flag bearer for Bukomansimbi South Constituency.

Minister Ssempijja promised NUP members and campaigners a secured future after joining NRM and asked them to start campaigning for President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni as the sole candidate for NRM in the 2026 presidential elections.

NUP leadership in Bukomansimbi was unreachable for a comment however the Kamwokya-based party leadership in Kampala disowned the so-called members citing that according to their records such people don’t belong to its structures in any way.

Bukomansimbi is represented only by National Unity Platform leaders in Parliament and it voted massively for Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert in the last disputed elections.
