In September 2013 during the press conference to announce that Nokia is being acquired by Microsoft at $7.17 billion, President and CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop ended his speech saying that “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost.” Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, shed sad tears.

This was the last choice for Nokia in order to prevent Nokia announcing their bankruptcy.

For starters, Nokia had been a respectable telecom company and i am sure that most of you who are reading this piece of article grew up hearing about Nokia and we knew it as a leading company in mobile phone industry.

They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents like Tecno, iPhone, Apple, Samsung to mention but a few were too powerful that Nokia was unable to compete with the other leading companies now days.

They missed out on learning, they missed on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.

The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition at whatever level or sector you may be operating in. It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things.

However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated. Things do not change, but we change.

Then the world has advanced, so advance with it. The advantage you have yesterday will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow.

Dear reader, you don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it right, you can lose out and fail. To change and improve yourself is giving yourself a second chance.

To be forced by others to change, is like being discarded. Those who refuse to learn and improve will definitely soon become redundant and not relevant to the industry in this fast moving economy and contemporary world. They will learn the lesson in a hard and expensive way!

Nevertheless, the State should avoid freezing the internet because of its political gains. Why switch off Facebook all this time long yet this is a social network platform where several people especially the youth whom government cannot provide jobs do run business from?

This is madness, selfish and poor governance which does not encourage individual sustainable development.

Better you invested in modern technology such that it enables Ugandans to earn a living, and this will make sense of the middle income status that Museveni is ever talking about, lest we forget about it if internet or modern technology is not taken as a priority towards growth and development.
Evolve or Dissolve.

The internet is the future of business. Learn and earn. Learning is the main step to improve ourselves as it can bring us towards the success.

Thus, ensure that we have our own marketability for ourselves.

Catch up with time so that we are able to compete with others and do not be left out in competition.
