A Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF choppers has airlifted 16 footballers who were injured in an accident in Abim district to Matany Hospital in Napak for further management.
The 16 were injured when a Fuso truck registration number UAZ 712Z they were travelling on board on Saturday failed to climb a hill, less than 10 km from takeoff and rolled back killing four people on spot and injuring dozens more.
As a result, President, Yoweri Museveni dispatched a military chopper to airlift the victims on Sundays and deliver them to Matany Hospital in Napak district for further management.
The Resident District Commissioner, Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza, says that they requested for assistance from the government to help support the health department to expedite the transfer of the accident victims in need of specialized care.
Abim District LC V Chairperson, Jimmy Ochero has applauded the military for offering an efficient and fast means to transfer the victims to a referral health facility. Matany is known for handling fractures and other complicated health conditions.
Some of the deceased footballers include Moses Alany, Kevin Ocen young, Philbert Okello, Oscar Oboya and Boniface Okidi.
