The big names to miss the CHAN final tournament

Every local based player in Uganda would love to get a chance to features in the CHAN Tournament as it acts as a good opportunity to showcase your talents to attract bigger clubs outside Uganda.

Coach Mckinstry named his final 25 man squad but as Whisper sports, we today bring those names that missed out on the final list but were capable of securing a slot in there.

Paul Mucureezi: He currently plays for vipers sc and has a lot of experience when it comes to continental football having played a number of games there while still a KCCA player. Mucureezi has also on many occasions put on the national colors especially during the time of Micho as the head coach.

Murshid Juuko: Perhaps better than all defenders in the CHAN final squad. Has featured in AFCON final tournaments but was left out so as he could complete his move to one of the top clubs in South Africa.

Brian Majwega: One of the best wingers in the country who can also play as a left-back. Majwega has had misunderstandings with the FUFA President Moses Magogo who even in 2019 forced Coach Sebastian Desabre to drop him from the squad that was to represent Uganda in the AFCON tournament in Egypt. His experience, pace and good decision making will be missed in Cameroon.

John Levita: He currently plays for KCCA but injuries have brought alot of setbacks to his career. He was one of the most promising centre-backs who at many occasions was above Halid Lwalia of vipers in the pecking order. He is still injured.

Dissan Ggaliwango: The Vipers left back missed out on the CHAN Final squad even after playing in the AFCON 2nd leg header against South Sudan in Nairobi. It is not clear why he missed out with some sources saying he is still sick of covid 19 while others say he suffered a knee injury in one of Vipers SC games before the CHAN Squad was summoned.

Steven Mukwala: The URA forward is the current top scorer in the star times Uganda Premier League. He was summoned to the Squad and even featured in the Pre CHAN Tournament. Many were surprised to see him dropped.

Kezironi Kizito: The KCCA midfielder had a bright start of his career having wonderful spells at Vipers SC. In 2015 Keziron was among the nominees for male player of the year for the FUFA Airtel Player’s Award. In 2016, he decided to go professional joining FC Leopards of Kenya and in 2017 joined India’s Kerala Blasters FC where he failed to make an appearance forcing him to return back to Kampala. In KCCA, he has tried to revive back his career but was overlooked by Coach Mckinstry.

Juma Baliya: The former Police FC striker who later joined Yanga Africans of Tanzania and later Gormahia of Kenya came back to Uganda and joined KCCA. He has hard a slow start falling behind Brian Aheebwa in the pecking order of Coach Mike Mutebi at KCCA. He however has great deal of experience.
