KCCA bows out of the CAF Confederation Cup

KCCA won today’s game 3-1 but the result wasn’t good enough to take them to the next round crushing out on away goal’s rule.

The first leg in Kigali was forfeited in favour of the hosts after KCCA failing to raise the minimum squad number of 14 players on match day. KCCA found themselves on the wrong side of the coin after many of its players testing positive for covid-19.

The Kasasiro boys came in the 2nd leg played at Kitende with high hopes of overturning the first leg result where AS Kigali was awarded a two goal win.

The match started in high gear with KCCA in the rush of getting an early goal. The rush paid as early as the 1st minute after striker Brian Aheebwa netted in the first goal. The first goal scored within the first seconds of kick off gave KCCA a sign of hope that it was possible.

The AS Kigali keeper saved the visitors on numerous occasions otherwise KCCA could even be 3 goals ahead before the first 15 minutes.

In the 40th Minute, striker Brian Aheebwa once again netted in the 2nd putting the game to 2-2 on aggregates.

However in the 50th minute, AS kigali poured a cold in the KCCA plans as they scored a goal that meant that KCCA required more two goals if they are to go to the next round.

KCCA tried all sorts of tactics to keep their hopes high and in the 70th minute, the possibility become alive when striker Brian Aheebwa netted in the 3rd goal completing his hatrick.

At this point, Mike Mutebi ordered his boys to push upfront to secure the winner but that wasn’t possible. The game ended 3-1. Had KCCA scorerd the 4th, they would have gone through.

3-1 meant that the total aggregates were 3-3 but AS Kigali went through on away goals’s rule having scored a goal away from home.

KCCA coach Mike Mutebi said he cannot blame the boys for the result because they did their best but were only let down by the ill fated 1st leg due to covid-19.
