The Chairperson Electoral Commission Uganda, Justice Simon Byabakama writes to Uganda Police boss Martin Okoth Ochola on alleged blocking and disruption of scheduled “presidential candidates” campaign meetings.

In a letter on Whisper Eye desk Mr Byabakama says he has received complaints from presidential candidates and also seen press reports alleging that Uganda Police is blocking and disrupting presidential candidates from accessing scheduled venues for purposes of conducting their respective campaign meetings.

In the letter, Justice Byabakama says this has resulted in unnecessary confrontations with physical clashes involving security officials and the candidates and their supporters which has portrayed the conduct of the electoral process a negative way.

He reminded the police IGP that conducting campaigns as per the harmonised programme is a recognized activity under the presidential elections act and the roadmap of the 2021 general elections.

He urged police to facilitate the smooth actualization of the electoral activities while following the shared copy of presidential campaign program.

The former high court judge requested the police leadership to ensure this electoral activity takes place in a peaceful manner and in accordance with the law and guidelines.

2021 Elections

The National Unity Platform presidential candidate Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Forum for Democratic Change candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi, . Katumba John an independent , Alliance for National Transformation Gen Mugisha Muntu have been forced cancel their meetings after the brutal intervention of the police .

Kyagulanyi and Amuriat have also been arrested by the police on allegations of wanting to spread a dangerous disease to their suppoters during their cmapigns.

10 candidates are looking to dislodge and end the 35 year rule by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni come 2021 elections 0n January 14.
