Exclusive: NUP EC chairperson Walukamba distances self from Joel Ssenyonyi- Balimwezo selfish Nakawa pact . Whisper Eye Reports.

National Unity Platform (NUP) party chairperson for her National Election Management Commission Ms Mercy Walukamba has disowned the Nakawa pact signed by NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi and Nakawa Division Mayor Mayor Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga.

Last week His Worship Balimwezo and Mr Joel Ssenyonyi selfishly declared them selves NUP parliamentary candidates for Nakawa East and Nakawa West respectively, without involving other candidates who applied for the same posts.

In an exclusive interview Ms Walukamba has disowned the pact and told Whisper Eye news that the party is still collecting Expression Of Interest (EOI) forms from interested Ugandans up to 21st of August, 2020. “I don’t know any thing about the agreement of Mr Joel Ssenyonyi and Mayor Balimwezo, we have not come to agreement of any candidate where there is more than one candidate officially,” says Ms Walukamba. “The issue of Nakawa is internal and we shall give our People the best candidate at the right time,” she stated.

Ms Walukamba explained that the Commission will give out certificates to all qualified and agreed NUP candidates at a national function. When asked on the best criteria People Power will use on deciding best candidates, she said that they will consider the candidate’s popularity on ground.

In Nakawa West where Mr Joel Ssenyonyi declared him self the official parliamentary candidate, there is also Counsel Kenneth Paul Kakande.

Many NUP aspirants mainly those who are not close to top leadership are worried about the vetting procedures in NUP party
