Road to 2021: People Power lawyer Shamim Malende battles FDC’s Stella Nyanzi for Kampala. Whisper Eye Reports

On Wednesday People Power, Our Power became the National Unity Platform (NUP) as it was launched by its principal MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu at Kamwokya headquarters.

NUP lawyer Shamim Malende is set to battle Dr Stella Nyanzi from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) for Kampala Woman MP seat.

After the launch of NUP and an umbrella as its symbol in the forthcoming general elections, Dr Stella Nyanzi publicly declared her royalty to FDC.

A move that has shifted attention to a young well mannered city lawyer Shamim Malende.

Ms Malende is a committed member who has dedicated her efforts securing People Power coordinators and supporters from police cells, as well as security court bails.

According to People Power legal records about 170 court cases are going on, and with Counsel Malende and the help of the legal team: Benjamin Katana, MP Assuman Basalirwa, they have managed to complete about 40 cases.

Kampala district woman MP is a race to watch come 2021.

Shamim Malende was in December 1986 to Jamal Ahmed Malende and Jane Francis Nassuna of Kawempe.

She owns a law firm Malende & Co. Advocates in Kampala.

Counsel Malende has done extensive pro bono work to the People Power Movement under her law firm which has made it easy to Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu and members of his Movement to meet less expenditure on legal help.

Dr Nyanzi picked FDC forms, and she will run on their ticket, thus an umbrella versus a key, which is the symbol for FDC.

Stella Nyanzi born on 16 June 1974, is a Ugandan medical anthropologist, feminist, queer rights activist, and scholar of sexuality, family planning, and public health.

She was arrested in 2017 for insulting the Ugandan president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
