Museveni mourns Mkapa, flags will fly at half mast for 3 days. Whisper Eye Reports

Uganda president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared three days of mourning the death of former Tanzanian president Benjamin William Mkapa.

Mkapa who ruled Tanzania for 10 years from 1995 to 2005 died on Thursday July 23, 2020.

‘I heard of the death of our brother, H.E Benjamin Mkapa. I started working with H.E Mkapa in 1967 when we were university students and he was the chief editor of the Nationalist newspaper,’ says President Museveni.

“During the 1979 crisis, Ndugu Mkapa was delegated to handle the Moshi Conference that brought together the Ugandan exile groups including FRONASA. He was Foreign Affairs Minister that time, Mr Museveni remakes.”

Mr Museveni has eulogised President Mkapa for his efforts towards the East African Community while he was president.

“When he became President of Tanzania, we worked together to consolidate the East African Community, he said.”

“It is a great loss for Africa” President Museveni said.

“I convey my condolences and those of the People of Uganda to Anne Mkapa, the children and the people of Tanzania, he said”

The flags in Uganda will fly at half mast for three days, starting today, Saturday, July 25th, at 0600hrs
