Police arrests two for impersonating URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi. Whisper Eye Updates
Uganda police have arrested two people for impersonating Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) commissioner Mr John Musinguzi Rujoki.
Two suspects are Muhimuziibwe Ronald, 26, and Mutambuzi, Francis, 38.
URA released a statement explaining how the duo opened a Facebook account and run it in the name of the ‘John Musinguzi Rujoki’ to defraud unsuspecting people.
“This fabricated account was being used in an attempt to defraud the public through false promises of jobs and business opportunities with URA,” reads the statement.
“A complainant who commenced interactions on April 27 with the ‘fake’ Facebook account in an attempt to reach out to the Commissioner General was instead alarmed when the fraudsters running” it “promise him a contract with URA for a kick-back of ugx 10 million.”
URA says one of the suspects operates a sim card registration business.
“He takes advantage of national identification cards received from clients visiting his shop to fraudulently register new sim cards,’ the document further explains.
After registering new sim cards, he then utilises to contact and defraud unsuspecting members of the public according to URA.
They were found with seven used sim cards, four unused sim cards and six orgininal National IDs.
Muhimuziibwe and Mutambuzi are detained as investigation take its course.
