Uganda Police pursue the arrest of City Lawyer Ssemakadde amid a legal dispute

In a dramatic turn of events, UgandaPolice want to cause the arrest of prominent lawyer, Ssemakadde, despite ongoing legal proceedings contesting the validity of the charges against him. The unfolding situation has sparked concern over potential legal overreach and disregard for due process.

The controversy erupted today as police announced their intention to apprehend Lawyer Ssemakadde, citing charges already under dispute in court as grounds for his arrest. The move has raised eyebrows within legal circles, with many questioning the timing and legitimacy of the police action.

Lawyer Ssemakadde’s legal team swiftly responded, highlighting the irony of pursuing an arrest while his application to contest the jurisdiction of the charges remains unresolved before Buganda Road Court. The application, filed on March 4th, seeks to challenge the legality of the charges levied against him.

Critics argue that the decision to pursue Ssemakadde’s arrest despite the pending legal challenge reflects a troubling disregard for the rule of law and due process. Concerns have been raised about the potential for arbitrary use of state power to silence dissent and intimidate legal professionals.

In response to the unfolding situation, Lawyer Derrick Bazekuketta of GEM Advocates, representing Ssemakadde, emphasized the urgency of the matter. He urged for a fair and transparent legal process, emphasizing the need for Buganda Road Court to promptly address Ssemakadde’s application and provide clarity on the jurisdictional issues at hand.

The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments and advocating for the protection of legal rights and freedoms. As the legal dispute unfolds, attention remains focused on upholding the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law.
