An abrupt power outage that affected Entebbe and surrounding areas on Sunday, August 9, 2026, triggered an immediate response from the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), with the company’s Acting Executive Director, Eng. Joselynne R. Rwabwogo, taking centre stage in the restoration exercise.
The outage followed a technical fault on the Entebbe and Kisubi distribution lines, leaving several residential, commercial, and institutional areas without electricity for hours. UEDCL quickly issued a public alert informing customers that its technical teams had been deployed to restore supply as soon as possible.
What made the incident particularly remarkable was the visible involvement of Eng. Rwabwogo, who personally travelled to Entebbe to inspect the progress of the ongoing restoration works.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Acting ED spent considerable time with engineers and field technicians, assessing the affected infrastructure and monitoring the pace of the repair works.
In one of the most striking moments of the operation, Eng. Joselynne R. Rwabwogo descended a steep staircase directly into a cable cabin to conduct an on-the-spot inspection of the works. Her hands-on approach drew praise from both staff and members of the public, who viewed it as a strong demonstration of leadership and accountability.
The inspection underscored UEDCL’s commitment to ensuring that restoration efforts were not only swift but also carried out according to the required safety standards.
According to UEDCL, the company’s technical teams remained fully deployed throughout the day and night, working around the clock to complete the repairs and restore electricity safely across the affected areas.
The outage impacted a wide section of Entebbe Municipality and neighbouring communities, including Katabi, Nkumba, Abaita Ababiri, Kitubulu, Kawuku, Kisubi, Garuga, Kasanje, Nakawuka, Kasenyi, Lugonjo, Namate, Nsamizi, Mpala, Bwerenga, Lutembe, Ssisa, Buwama, Bulwanyi, Nanziga, and Nankonge, among others.
UEDCL apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience as engineers worked to stabilise the network.
The presence of the Acting Managing Director at the fault site quickly became the dominant headline of the day. In Uganda’s utility sector, senior executives rarely appear physically at technical restoration sites, making Eng. Rwabwogo’s direct involvement a significant departure from the norm.
Industry observers noted that such visible leadership can boost staff morale, improve coordination, and strengthen public confidence during service disruptions.
Her inspection of underground cable facilities also highlighted the complexity of the fault and the importance of close supervision during restoration operations.
As restoration works progressed, UEDCL reiterated its commitment to delivering reliable, safe, and efficient electricity distribution services to all customers.
The company assured residents that further updates would be provided as the works advanced and normal supply was progressively restored across the Entebbe and Kisubi distribution network.
For many residents, however, the lasting image of the day was not only the power restoration effort itself, but Eng. Joselynne R. Rwabwogo standing alongside technicians in the field and descending into the cable cabin to personally inspect the restoration works, a gesture that symbolised decisive leadership in the face of a major electricity disruption.
