Exclusive: UCC writes to Facebook & Google demanding them to delete and ban online platforms linked Bobi Wine. Whisper Eye Reports

Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) a body that is entrusted to regulate communication in the country has penned to Google and Facebook demanding them to pull down platforms alleged to have contributed to the recent riots in Uganda.

Riots erupted in Uganda’s major towns after the arrest of opposition presidential candidate of National Unity Platform (NUP) Kyagulanyi Ssentumu Robert popularly known as Bobi Wine.

About 100 people were killed during the riots, and after those who had sustained serious injuries.

Hundreds were left nursing serious injuries and many were left unemployed after losing businesses.

UCC letter to Google Inc accuses these platforms for fuelling the violence which resulted into reckless death of innocent Ugandans.

These platforms which are pro Bobi Wine include; TMO Online, KK TV, Ekyooto, Namungo Media, JB Muwonge 2, Bobi Wine 2021, Map Media TV, Lumbuye Fred, Trending Channel Ug, Uganda Yaffe, Uganda News Update, Ghetto TV, Busesa Media Updates, Uganda Empya among others that are being verified by UCC.

These platforms may be pulled down if UCC convince Google and Facebook after their filed report.

Unlike the previous general elections in the country, the ongoing presidential elections in Uganda have been mainly covered and broadcasted through social media platforms live creating a live experience to Ugandans.
