In a harrowing twist of event, community of Pakia north village in Pukweru sub county Pakwach district woke up to a tragic news of the death of their area LCI chairperson Mr Niknora Oryekuwun , whose lifeless body was discovered in a nearby cassava plantation.
The Sunday, June 23rd rudely awakening experience came to lime light after the garden owner discovered the body as she went to harvest cassava in the garden.
James Okecha, the National resistance movement chairperson for Pukweru East Parish confirmed that “it’s true he was found dead in that garden. His body that has torture marks was found one kilometre away from home.”
The LCIII chairperson of Pukweru sub county Geoffrey Okoch, said first-hand information indicates that he was embroiled in a protracted land conflict with his neighbours. He condemned the act calling for the rightful channel of resolving the existing land conflicts.
“This man called Oryekuwun Nick Nora had a bit of wrangle with the neighbours over land issues and that is the information we are getting from the neighbours or the family members. The issue has been taken to court. I’m appealing to the community to desist from such act because this is not the first time that such an incident is happening in this area” Okoch told this publication in a telephone interview.
Recently, one person was reportedly murdered in the area on allegation of protracted land dispute.
By press time, Police at Pakwach central Police station were yet to issue a statement as inquiry into the incident has commenced.
The body has been taken for autopsy amidst leaders call for intensified sensitization on land rights and conflict resolution.
