4000 People smile as Oyam South MP aspirant Patrick Ogwang Obura repairs a borehole

Over 4000 people in Minakulu Sub County have a reason to smile as Oyam South Parliamentary aspirant Patrick Ogwang Obura repairs a borehole for them.

Okuti Patrick the headteacher of Ajaga Primary School appreciated Ogwang Obura for repairing this borehole that had remained spoiled since 2006.

According to Okuti, Ajaga primary school which has an enrollment of over 2000 pupils was seriously hit with water crisis as school children could share the only borehole at this school with over 2000 members of the community forcing some learners to access uncleaned water from the wells resulting into several cases of intestinal warms at school.

Brenda Akello a primary seven pupil of Ajaga primary school who talked to our news reporter revealed that they could fight for water, especially during break and lunch times which also forced some of their colleagues to dropouts

On the other hand, one of the locals who preferred not to be identified said they were already tired of school children who normally go door to door beging drinking water from members of the community around Ajaga trading centre.

Johnson Okeng the Lc1 chairperson of Otada B village said his village had seven wells drilled by the community but with the current flooding in their area, his office has closed two wells following public outcry of growing cases of intestinal warms.

He further said NGOs had drilled Seven boreholes in the Ajaga refugee camp but most of those boreholes broke down beyond repair resulting in a serious water crisis in Otada B and all the neighbouring 10 villages.

This was confirmed at Ajaga health centre three when our reporter visited this facility and realised that 465 cases of intestinal warms were registered in the past three months with children age 03-15 greatly affected.

Geoffrey Thadeo Okello the male youth councillor for Minakulu Sub County who represented Patrick Ogwang Obura said this borehole was repaired because of the overwhelming population in Ajaga Trading Centre as well as government institutions such as Minakulu Seeds Secondary schools, Ajaga primary School and Ajaga Health Centre three calling upon members of this community to form water source committee for easy maintenance of this borehole.

With his borehole reparation initiative,Hon Patrick Ogwang Obura has currently repaired 38 boreholes in all the three town councils and five sub counties in Oyam south constituency with an aim of boosting access to clean water.
