On Saturday 24th June 2023, goals from Kisolo John Innocent, Abubaker Mayanja and Emayo Calvin Peter ensured Mawokota complete a come-back to a 3 -1 victory over Busiro in the opening game of the Masaza Cup championship at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium, Wankulukuku. Akram Muzanyi had earlier put Busiro the defending champions ahead through a penalty.
It was a strong start for Mawokota, who looked lively throughout the entire game. His Majesty Ronald Muwendi Mutebi II the Kabaka of Buganda graced the event on a day people of both teams turned up massively.
Whisper Eye News has learnt of the five major talking points why Mawokota clashed Buganda Airtel Masaza champions Busiro at the opening match of the tournament.
Kabaka’s presence. Kabaka’s chiefs in Mawokota headed by Kayima (title of the Ssaza Chief) Oweek. Gabriel Kabonge have with much efforts tried to unite Kabaka’s subjects in the county by installing chiefs from villages (abatongole), parishes (abaami b’emiruka) and at the Sub counties (abaami b’amagombolola) with well constituted executives. These have preached the gospel of Buganda and Kabaka to the subjects in Mawokota, and therefore at the Kabaka’s presence, Busiro couldn’t survive. The desire to impress their fans at Kabaka’s presence, Mawokota players had either by hook or crook, to win the game.
Unity.
Mawokota Ssaza administration together with the team management had organized numerous “fan reach-out” sessions right from team selection, unveiling the management, friendly matches and others.
This ensured a strong unity among them. Unity was portrayed on the due day where each individual from Mawokota say politicians, businesspeople, each mobilized massively and turned upon the match day.
At Wankulukuku, Mawokota fans who looked more united cheerfully ululated towards their team on the pitch, and there’s no doubt, it gave their players morale to be play with eager and won the game.
Brooks Agro Farm – Kitojjo Sponsorship.
Mawokota FC team manager, Counsel Dennis Bugaya’s entity Brooks Agro Farm – Kitojjo which deals in poultry keeping has in the recent past sponsored several football tournaments inclusive of the famous “Kayima Cup Tournament”.
On the occasion of unveiling the team management, Bugaya said it that, they have invested heavily in the team and all what they want is to see Mawokota topping the tournament. Brooks Agro Farm-Kitojjo provided all necessary equipments for players, and coaching staff including hiring professional coaches of different departments like goal keeping.
The players had been given intense care before the game, and therefore had to make it for the team.
Squad Depth. The 2005, 2007 and 2013 Masaza Cup Champions who are seeking for their fourth Masaza Cup crown had thorough screening exercises to have the best players. They looked lively amidst the game and maintained their free flowing football and created a couple of chances. Even when Busiro scored from the spot in the 14th minute, Mawokota players remained calm and composed as they searched for a come back. It was also a strong start for Richard Malinga, who is in charge of the team for a fourth consecutive season.
Fans Base. Mawokota had a stong fans base which was heavily mobilized. From the MPs who fueled vehicles to transport their people, the District Local Conncils and other stakeholders, were all present and sent wild celebrations every time their team could score.
How it went on…
Busiro’s Akram Muzanyi scored from the spot in the 14th minute, after he was brought down in the area. In the 37th minute, through Abubaker Mayanja who headed in a well delivered cross from Micheal Abula, Mawokota leveled the matters. Three minutes later, John Innocent Kisolo put his Mawokota side ahead with a powerful effort that beat Busiro goalkeeper Sulaiman Ssali to send Mawokota fans into wild celebrations.
Busiro earlier had a chance to level matters before half time, but Akram Muzanyi sent his penalty wide after Herbert Kibirango had been fouled in the area. In the 80th, Calvin Peter Emayo put the icing on the cake with the game’s third in what was the last nail into Busiro’s coffin.
