KAF’s Ssenono Johnson rebukes police brutality against female MPs

The director of peace and justice of Kohoniktha Autuha Foundation (KAF) Mr Ssenono Johnson has called upon the government of Uganda to take action against security officers who brutally arrested Ugandan female MPs during their peaceful demonstration against police violence against women leaders across the country.

In an exclusive interview with Whisper Eye News,, Mr. Ssenono said that his organization KAF it’s following the issue and action must be taken against those violating human rights.

“The culprits must be punished under the law, you cannot use violence against peaceful people who are fighting for their rights,” says Mr Senono.

“Ugandans must stand up and fight against the violation of human rights together. This is our country and we must enjoy all inherent rights regardless of our political views,” Mr Ssenono explained.

The eleven MPs who were arrested include; Joyce Bagala (Mityana woman MP) Kaaya Christine Nakimwero (Woman Kiboga District), Florence Kabugho (Woman Kasese district ), Betty Ethel Naluyima (woman Wakiso district), Joan Acom Alobo (woman Soroti City) and Asinansi Nyakato (woman Hoima City) and Suzan Mugabi(woman Buvuma district).

Others are Hellen Nakimuli (a woman from Kalangala district), Juliet Nakabuye Kakande (A woman from Masaka City), Manjeri Kyebakutika (A woman from Jinja City), Hanifa Nabukeera (a Woman from Mukono district) and Joan Namutaawe (Woman Masaka district).

The MPs were arrested on Thursday 27/04/2023 when they were demonstrating against the brutal arrest of Buvuma district woman MP Hon Susan Mugabi who was beaten by police officers on 23 April 2023 during women’s Day celebrations in Kyanja – Kutale, Buvuma.

The MPs on Wednesday 26th April 2023, petitioned the speaker of Parliament on what they termed violence against women leaders across the country.
